The ornaments are named after the German city of Dresden, where many were manufactured in factories between 1880 and 1910. RI40
The cardboard was dampened to make it flexible, then pressed into a metal die to create the ornament's shape. Each ornament was often made up of multiple pieces that were assembled by cottage workers.
